About Education Organizations
Nonprofit organizations associated with education benefit us all. From preschools to high school classes, from universities to adult continuing education courses, education organizations help us to learn and to develop mentally, physically, socially, and vocationally. These organizations promote programs for students with special needs, vocational and technical training, libraries, literacy programs, scholarships, student organizations, academic research, and parent-teacher groups.
Common Development Strategies for Education Organizations
Alumni giving is absolutely essential to the development efforts of higher education organizations. These organizations must reach out to prominent alumni in the form of comprehensive campaigns. While private schools have always been sensitive to fundraising needs, we are also seeing the rapid expansion of school foundations and more sophisticated fundraising efforts in the public school arena as well. Special events and school fundraisers, historically the bread and butter for most public schools, are being replaced with broader development efforts. Education organizations must take advantage of their longstanding and deep ties to public funding sources. They must leverage the fact that everyone in the community has a connection to at least one school, if not several, and those relationships can form the roots of many rewarding fundraising efforts.
How Mighty Penguin Helps Education Organizations
While some development strategies are universally helpful to all nonprofit organizations, successful nonprofits skillfully target their development efforts to identify and to cultivate the funding sources most likely to bear fruit for them. The strategies used to raise money for a new hospital, for example, are quite different than those used to promote music education. Mighty Penguin understands the many funding sources and strategies available to help its Education clients. If you are an organization involved with education, Mighty Penguin can help you design and implement an effective development strategy, which will help you fulfill your mission more successfully. You can change the world!
Our consultants worked with Snow College to conduct a comprehensive assessment of its development program. Having over twenty years of experience working within development offices of higher education institutions, our consultants were highly qualified to provide this assessment. We evaluated the college’s current strategies and practices, looked at the strengths and weaknesses of its board, explored attitudes among its development staff, measured the effectiveness of the various development efforts in place, provided ongoing training and strategic development for its foundation board, and presented many specific action items for the organization to pursue in its efforts to strengthen its development program.
