Environment and Animals

About Environment and Animals Organizations

Environmental organizations dedicate their resources to preserving a healthy and sustainable environment at home and abroad. The scope of work for these organizations is relatively broad such as nature conservation, nuclear safety, air and water, environmental science and technology, and natural resource management. Animal nonprofit organizations include humane societies, wildlife sanctuaries, fisheries, veterinary organizations, and zoos.

Common Development Strategies for Environment and Animal Organizations

Many people have extraordinary passion when it comes to protecting our environment and animals, and development for these organizations must tap into that passion. Similar to arts and culture organizations, nonprofits associated with the environment and animals have a broad range of natural and effective funding sources available to assist them. There is a fair amount of national funding available, particularly for environmental protection; therefore, grant writing, policy influence, and lobbying are important. Many individuals also care about these issues, so major gifts and planned giving are great opportunities here. Grass roots campaigns are also effective, such as individual giving, special events, public awareness, social media, and community outreach. Foundations and corporations often support organizations helping the environment and animals, so we must develop systems to identify and cultivate these development opportunities as well, such as proposals and corporate partnerships.

How Mighty Penguin Helps Animal and Environment Organizations

While some development strategies are universally helpful to all nonprofit organizations, successful nonprofits skillfully target their development efforts to identify and to cultivate the funding sources most likely to bear fruit for them. The strategies used to raise money for a new hospital, for example, are quite different than those used to promote music education. Mighty Penguin understands the many funding sources and strategies available to help its Environment and Animal clients. If you are an environmental organization or an organization that works with animals, Mighty Penguin can help you design and implement an effective development strategy, which will help you fulfill your mission more successfully. You can change the world!

Wild Utah Project

Wild Utah Project hired us to conduct a strategic review of its development program. Our primary emphasis was to help Wild Utah Project through the process of identifying new funding sources from among the various available channels: individuals, foundations and endowments, corporations and sponsorships, public funding, and earned revenue. Working together we were able to identify several attractive new funding sources. We also trained and mentored the organization’s executive team, staff, volunteers, and board.
